Twitter Loses Celebs to Keep A Child Alive

Can we decide who we want to keep and who stays banished from the Twittosphere?

In a daring – for the social networking addicts involved – and attention grabbing new campaign for Keep A Child Alive, several celebrities are going to disable their Twitter and Facebook accounts on 1 December (World Aids Day) and won’t sign back on until the world raises $1 million for the cause.

Get ready for the following entertainers to go offline soon with a “last tweet” showing a video testament and ads to surface depicting the stars lying in coffins to symbolise their “digital deaths”.

Celebrities involved in this Keep A Child Alive campaign include:

Kim Kardashian
Justin Timberlake
Usher
Jennifer Hudson
Serena Williams
Elijah Wood
Ryan Seacrest
Swizz Beatz
Janelle Monae
Jay Sean

Alicia Keys told the Associated Press, ”it’s really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on. It’s so important to shock you to the point of waking up. This is such a direct and instantly emotional way and a little sarcastic, you know, of a way to get people to pay attention.”

“We’re trying to sort of make the remark: Why do we care so much about the death of one celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the place that we’re all from?” said Leigh Blake, the president and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive.

Frankly, $1 million shouldn’t be hard to do. I mean, Alicia Keys has over 2.6 million Twitter followers and Gaga has extremely hardcore and mobilised Little Monsters that make up an online mass of 24 million Facebook fans and 7.2 million Twitter followers.

Double the figure and if we don’t achieve that within 48 hours, Kim and Khloe Kardashian accounts can stay disabled.
